Ghafir 40:42
“You invite me to disbelieve in Allāh and associate with Him that of which I have no knowledge, and I invite you to the Exalted in Might, the Perpetual Forgiver.[1373]”

Essence
They called him to gods no one could know; he called them to the Almighty, who still bends to cover whoever turns to Him.
A reflection
The real might in the room
Pharaoh's court believed it knew what might looked like. It looked like Pharaoh. When his magicians threw down their ropes before Musa, they swore by it. Bi-ʿizzati firʿawna: by the might of Pharaoh, we will surely win (26:44).
Into that room the believer speaks one word that takes the title away. Al-ʿAzīz. The Almighty. Not Pharaoh. Allah.
The root ʿ-z-z has a picture the first hearers knew. An eagle's nest on the highest crag. Out of every hand's reach, never overpowered, rare and precious. Its strength shelters and lifts others.
One classical commentary draws out what the name implies. A god must be perfect in power. Pharaoh is at the very limit of weakness, so how could he be a god? The idols are carved stone, so how could they be gods? Another explains al-ʿAzīz as the One whom nothing can prevent when He acts against His enemy.
Here is where this ayah meets the ego. Every human being has a small ʿizza they are proud of. A body, a title, a bank balance, a following. A young man posts videos of his lifting records every week. One icy morning he slips on the front step and, for a month, cannot lift his own daughter.
That is the truth about borrowed might. It was always on loan. The arrogance that grows around it is a man building a nest on a ledge and calling it the summit.
The believer's word humbles every throne. Only One is truly ʿAzīz. Every other strength is a gift from Him, and can be taken back in a morning.
