An-Najm 53:13

وَلَقَدْ رَءَاهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَىٰ

“And he certainly saw him in another descent[1567]”

Saheeh International

Essence

He saw him once more, in another descent: two sightings in a lifetime, years apart, the second in a place where no doubt could follow.

A reflection

Confirmed in a second, different place

Wa-laqad raʾāhu nazlatan ukhrā: and he certainly saw him in another descent. The laqad is emphatic, a sworn certainty.

A great classical theologian explains why a second sighting mattered. The first was on earth, on the eastern horizon. Someone might, however remotely, suggest it was a jinn rather than an angel. The Prophet ﷺ himself had certain knowledge, the theologian says, but the objection could still be raised. The second sighting removed even that remote possibility. It happened at the Lote Tree above the heavens, where no jinn or human could be.

One observation can always be questioned. Two observations, in two different settings, close the gap.

That is how careful people confirm anything that matters. Picture a family doctor who receives an alarming test result for a young patient. The numbers are bad. Before she calls anyone, she asks for the sample to be run again, at a different laboratory, on a different machine. Only when the second result matches does she pick up the phone. She was probably right the first time. But what she is about to say will change a life, and a second confirmation in a different place makes it unshakeable.

The Quran is giving the Prophet's testimony that same structure. Not one sighting that could be explained away, but two, in two worlds.

There is a habit to take from this. When a decision is large, do not rest it on a single impression. Test it in a second setting. The job offer, seen again after a night's sleep. The worry about a friend, checked in a calm conversation. The religious claim, confirmed from a second reliable source. Certainty is worth the second look.
