Al-Mutaffifin 83:21
يَشْهَدُهُ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ
“Which is witnessed by those brought near [to Allāh].”

Essence
The deeds nobody noticed are signed off in the highest company there is.
A reflection
Witnessed, and not by just anyone
Shahida joins three things in one word: being present, knowing and making known. A mashhad was a place where people gathered. The tongue was called al-shāhid, the one that tells what the eye saw. So shahāda is never hearsay. It is what you say because you were there.
Classical readers give two senses here. The near ones attend the record, which means they keep and guard it. Or they will testify to what is in it on the Day. One commentator suggests that their witness is part of why the righteous will have an easy reckoning. Those nearest to Allah will speak for them.
A classical scholar of the heart notices what is missing. The Quran mentions no witnesses for the record of the wicked. It names them only for the righteous, to honour that record and make it known among the elite of creation.
Picture a small office behind a mosque on a Saturday afternoon. A young couple sign their marriage contract. Two witnesses lean over the table and sign beneath. Their names make the moment real and public. It is no longer a private promise. It is a matter of record, attested by people who were there.
The record of the righteous has its witnesses too, but not two uncles from the congregation. It is witnessed by the angels brought near to Allah.
That changes how the unnoticed good life looks. You may feel that no one saw the honest invoice or the patient answer. The ayah says the most honoured of creation saw it, and will say so.
