Yusuf · Makki · ayah 110 of 111
Yusuf 12:110
“[They continued] until, when the messengers despaired and were certain that they had been denied, there came to them Our victory, and whoever We willed was saved. And Our punishment cannot be repelled from the people who are criminals.”

Essence
Allah's help reached even the messengers only when every human hope had been cut, arriving like rain on ground that everyone had given up on.
A reflection
Not late, but on its time
When help from Allah does not come, a quiet verdict often forms in the heart. I must be doing something wrong. Or worse: He has stopped listening.
This ayah describes the people closest to Allah, His messengers, and says their help was also delayed. Ḥattā idhā: until, when. The word until stretches time out. It implies a long wait before the turn.
One concise commentary says it directly. Do not hurry the help against those who deny you. Help did not come quickly to the messengers before you either, for a wisdom We know. It came when distress was at its height. And the commentary adds: in this is consolation for the Prophet ﷺ.
A narration-based commentary describes the pattern. Allah's help comes down on His messengers at the narrowest point of their situation. It comes when they are waiting for relief, at the time of greatest need.
Another surah describes believers shaken until the messenger and those with him cried out: when is Allah's help? And the answer: surely, Allah's help is near (2:214).
So the delay is not a verdict. If it was not a verdict on the messengers, it is not one on you.
This does not mean every hardship is about to end. It means that a long wait, by itself, proves nothing about Allah's attention. The messengers waited too. The help came on its own time, which is not the same as late.
