Ar-Ra'd 13:43

“And those who have disbelieved say, "You are not a messenger." Say, [O Muḥammad], "Sufficient is Allāh as Witness between me and you, and [the witness of] whoever has knowledge of the Scripture."[646]”

Essence

When they deny you, say Allah suffices as witness between us, and so does whoever truly knows the Book.

A reflection

Sufficient, without the whole room's vote

A man is wrongly blamed within his own housing association for a shortfall in the shared repair fund. He spends weeks trying to convince every doubter individually, cornering neighbours at the bins, drafting long explanations nobody asked for. Some believe him. A few never will, whatever he shows them. He eventually stops. It is not because he has given up on the truth. It is because he has given up needing the whole room's vote to feel it is settled.

This ayah answers an accusation with something smaller than a campaign, and larger than it sounds. Kafā billāhi shahīdan: Allah suffices as witness between me and you. Not a majority. Not a council's ruling. One witness, sufficient in Himself, because His knowledge needs no second opinion to be complete.

A fair question follows. If Allah already knows the truth, does it matter whether people believe the accused? Is simply citing this verse a way of avoiding the work of presenting real evidence? It is not, because the ayah does not stop at one witness. It immediately adds a second, whoever has knowledge of the Book, someone with genuine, independent grounds to confirm the claim. The order matters. Evidence is still given, openly and without evasion, and only then is the outcome released to the only verdict that was ever truly final.

What should shrink here is a quiet kind of pride. It is the assumption that one's own worth depends on winning every doubter's belief. It is as if a verdict were not settled until the whole room agreed with you. Allah's sufficiency as witness humbles that assumption rather than flattering it. It is not a reason to stop caring what is true. It is permission to stop treating every doubter's vote as something owed to your own self-importance.
