Al-Baqarah 2:208
“O you who have believed, enter into Islām completely [and perfectly] and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.”

Essence
Enter peace with your whole self, not one compartment of it; and watch the small steps, because ruin is reached one footstep at a time.
A reflection
One self, not three
A woman has three group chats and three selves. At work she is one person, at the mosque another, with old friends a third. She switches vocabulary, values and even laughter between them. By Friday evening she is exhausted, and cannot say who she really is.
'O you who believe, enter into peace entirely'. Many early commentators explain as-silm as Islam itself. Others say obedience, and one says peace and reconciliation. The word holds all three. Its root pictures a traveller reaching a camp at dusk and calling out 'salām': no weapon, no war between us.
Then kāffa, entirely. The lexicons picture a whole hand closing round a thing, nothing left outside its grip. A classical commentator explains: take hold of all the handholds of Islam and all its laws, as far as you are able.
Allah needs none of this wholeness. He is free of all need (35:15). It is offered for our sake. A divided life is tiring. Every compartment needs guarding, and every switch costs something. A person who has entered peace with his whole self has one face, one set of values and one Lord in every room.
This is what many people today are looking for when they talk about authenticity. The Quran's version is not 'be true to yourself' but 'give your whole self to the One who made it'. 'In the remembrance of Allah hearts find rest' (13:28).
The woman with three chats does not need a fourth self. She needs to let the one Lord into all three rooms.
