Az-Zumar 39:41
“Indeed, We sent down to you the Book for the people in truth. So whoever is guided - it is for [the benefit of] his soul; and whoever goes astray only goes astray to its detriment. And you are not a manager [i.e., authority] over them.”

Essence
The Book came down for people's own sake: whoever follows it gains, whoever strays loses, and the Prophet ﷺ is not their keeper.
A reflection
Your faith is not a favour to Him
The ayah opens with innā anzalnā: indeed, We sent down. It is the plural of greatness, the voice of a King speaking of His own act. Then it says who the Book is for: li-l-nās, for people. Not for Him.
One commentary spells out what that little word implies. It was sent for their sake, because they need it. As for Me, it adds, I have no need of it; I am the One free of all need. Another modern summary says the same. Allah is not benefited by anyone's guidance, nor harmed by anyone's straying.
Hold that against a habit of the ego. Picture a man who has prayed every dawn prayer at the mosque for a year. He applies for a promotion and does not get it. Driving home, he says out loud: after everything I've done for You. He means it as a complaint. It is really a bill.
The ayah quietly tears up the bill. Every prayer he prayed went into his own account, fa-li-nafsih. The King lost nothing on the days he slept through, and gained nothing on the days he came. What looked like service rendered was a gift received.
This is what majesty does to pride. It does not insult the worshipper. It removes the stage he was standing on. He is not a benefactor of heaven. He is a guest who has been fed.
A sceptic might ask whether a God who announces His own greatness is not seeking praise. The ayah answers in its own grammar. The One who needs nothing has sent something down. The only party with anything to gain is the reader. A Being hungry for praise would keep the Book until it was earned. This one sent it to people who had not asked.
