Al-Mulk 67:1
تَبَـٰرَكَ ٱلَّذِى بِيَدِهِ ٱلْمُلْكُ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Essence
Before a single command arrives, you are told whose hand you are already in, and that His good never runs down.
A reflection
The hand you are already in
In a county archive, the deeds to a whole valley sit in one box on one shelf. A farmer may have worked the same twelve acres for forty years. He knows every gate, every drain, the one corner that floods. And his name is entered there as a tenancy. He is not less of a farmer for it. He simply is not the owner, and the box says so without raising its voice.
Bi-yadihi al-mulk: in His hand is the kingship. The Arabs used this exact idiom for who really decides. To say that a matter was in a man's hand meant the binding and the loosing were his. The sources are careful at this point. The phrase is put there to confirm that He is King and Owner, not to picture a limb. One classical reading takes the hand as the idiom of complete grasp and disposal. Another notes that the attribute is affirmed as befits His majesty, and leaves the how alone. The text says what it says, and the rest sits where the scholars left it.
The commentaries spell out what that grasp contains. He honours whom He wills and humbles whom He wills. He gives life and takes it, enriches and impoverishes, gives and withholds. Read those six slowly against your own year. Which of them did you arrange?
Pride is largely a filing error. We mistake a tenancy for a title deed, then defend it as though we had drawn the valley ourselves. The ayah does not insult you. It corrects the paperwork, and there is rest in a corrected record. A tenant can sleep. An owner who privately suspects he is a tenant cannot.
Someone will ask why God opens a surah by magnifying Himself. Does He need the acknowledgement? The first word already answers it. The form of tabāraka, the sources say, places Him beyond the attributes of created things. When a creature announces its own greatness it stakes a claim it could lose by next year, which is why vanity is always anxious. He is not staking a claim. He is stating what was true before there was anyone to hear it. He gains nothing from your agreement. You gain a true map.
