Al-Baqarah 2:149
“So from wherever you go out [for prayer, O Muḥammad], turn your face toward al-Masjid al-Ḥarām, and indeed, it is the truth from your Lord. And Allāh is not unaware of what you do.”

Essence
From wherever you set out, turn your face towards the Sacred Mosque: it is the truth from your Lord, and Allah is not unaware of what you do.
A reflection
Prayed between the rows, seen
At midday in a long plastic polytunnel, a fruit picker checks the qibla on a cracked phone. He kneels between two rows of strawberry plants, on a folded jacket, while the others take their break by the van. No one is watching. The supervisor is on a call.
This ayah repeats the command to face the Sacred Mosque, this time for 'wherever you set out'. A concise commentary says it is for travel. And it ends: 'Allah is not unaware of what you do.' Earlier, a similar phrase was a warning to those who concealed the truth (2:140). Here it is addressed to the believers who obey. A modern commentary reads it so: He sees what you do, and will repay you for it.
The root of ghāfil, unaware, pictures land with no waymarks and a camel with no brand: things left unmarked, as if overlooked. Nothing done for Allah is left unmarked like that. The prayer in the polytunnel is as fully seen as the one in the great mosque.
This humbles the ego from an unexpected side. We are tempted to save our best for an audience. A prayer seen by people feels weightier; a hidden one feels small. The ayah says the only gaze that matters was never absent. He needs nothing from our prayer (35:15), and still He does not overlook a single one.
The fruit picker stood up, brushed the soil from his knees and went back to the rows. His prayer had already reached its audience.
