Ar-Rum 30:13
وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُم مِّن شُرَكَآئِهِمْ شُفَعَـٰٓؤُا۟ وَكَانُوا۟ بِشُرَكَآئِهِمْ كَـٰفِرِينَ
“And there will not be for them among their [alleged] partners any intercessors, and they will [then] be disbelievers in their partners.”

Essence
Whatever was set up beside Allah stands nowhere near its followers when they need it most, and they end by disowning it themselves.
A reflection
Their partners, never His
Read the ayah slowly and one small word stands out. It does not say 'Allah's partners'. It says shurakāʾihim, their partners. The word comes twice, and both times it belongs to them.
The root pictures a share. The Arabs lived by partnership: two men might own shares in one field or one well. A sharīk held part of something that was not wholly his. To associate partners with Allah is to hand out shares in what belongs to Him alone: worship, trust, fear and hope.
But who handed out the shares? Not Allah. He never took a partner. The partnership existed only in the claim of those who made it. So the Quran gives the partners to their makers. They are 'theirs', in the way a forged signature belongs to the forger.
Picture a graduate applying for a job. On the form she lists a well-known professor as her referee, though she never asked him. The employer rings the professor. He is polite but puzzled; he has never heard of her. The referee was 'hers' only on paper. He was never hers in fact.
The early commentators read the ayah this way. Those they worshipped besides Allah did not intercede for them. Some added that the partners included the leaders and companions who led them astray. One commentator said the partners betrayed them at the moment they needed them most.
There is a quiet comfort in the pronoun too. If the partners are only 'theirs', they never touched the real ownership of anything. The well and the field were never shared. The whole kingdom stayed with its one Owner while people wrote shares on paper.
The question for any reader is what I have written into my own forms. Whose name do I list as my real security, my real referee? If it is anyone other than Allah, the call will one day be made, and the answer will be silence.
