As-Saffat 37:11
“Then inquire of them, [O Muḥammad], "Are they a stronger [or more difficult] creation or those [others] We have created?" Indeed, We created them [i.e., men] from sticky clay.”
Saheeh International
Essence
The deniers are asked to judge for themselves whether they are harder to make than the heavens, when they were made from sticky clay.
A reflection
Grabbing the rail in the storm
A man on the deck of a cruise ship is telling strangers about his personal best in the gym. He lifts twice his body weight. Then the wind rises, the ship lists, and a wave slaps across the rail. He grabs the handrail with both hands, exactly like the retired couple beside him. For a few seconds, all of them are the same size.
A-hum ashaddu khalqan am man khalaqnā: are they stronger in make, or what We have created? The commentators list what that 'what' includes. The heavens, the earth, the mountains, the angels, the stars and the blazing meteors of the ayat just before. Set yourself beside that list and the question answers itself.
Then the ayah adds: innā khalaqnāhum min ṭīnin lāzib. We created them from sticky clay. One commentator draws the lesson plainly: their make is weak, so let them not be arrogant.
Someone may ask: isn't this demeaning? Is God belittling human beings to make Himself look great? The same Quran says, 'We have honoured the children of Ādam' (17:70). The reminder of clay is not contempt. It is medicine for one particular sickness: pride that forgets where it came from. Allah gains nothing from our humility (35:15). We gain everything, because pride is the wall between us and the truth.
The ego stands on deck and lists its records. The ayah gently points at the sky, and then at the clay under its fingernails. Both are true. You are honoured, and you are mud. Hold the rail.
