At-Tur 52:34
فَلْيَأْتُوا۟ بِحَدِيثٍ مِّثْلِهِۦٓ إِن كَانُوا۟ صَـٰدِقِينَ
“Then let them produce a statement like it, if they should be truthful.”

Essence
Every accusation is answered with one open test: if a man made this, you are men of the same tongue, so bring speech like it.
A reflection
The cheapest refutation, never used
Think about what this ayah offered the Quraysh. They were sure the Prophet ﷺ had made the Quran up. Here was the simplest possible way to prove it. Produce speech like it. Not a whole book, not even a chapter, just ḥadīthin, a discourse.
One commentator spelled out what they had at hand. If he is a poet, you have eloquent poets. If he is a soothsayer, you have clever soothsayers. You have men who improvise speeches and poems and tell stories. Let them bring the like of what he brought.
Another commentator pointed out how well placed they were. They shared his humanity and his Arabic. They had long practice in speeches and poetry. They handled every style of verse and prose. They kept careful memory of the battles and days of the Arabs. If anyone could do it, they could.
And they never did. Instead, according to the commentaries, they plotted against him in their council house, and later fought him in open battle. They chose the most expensive options available, when the cheapest was sitting in front of them.
Picture a company that makes water filters. A small rival claims its filter removes far more impurities. The big company could settle it in a week with a public side-by-side laboratory test. Instead it spends two years on lawsuits, advertising campaigns and quiet pressure on retailers. Anyone watching draws the obvious conclusion. If you could win the simple test, you would have run it.
That is a strategic lesson with wide use. When an opponent avoids the direct test and reaches for force, delay or slander, the avoidance is itself evidence. And for the believer it is a lesson in confidence. The Quran did not need to hide from comparison. It invited it. Truth can afford to say: test me.
