Saba 34:48

قُلْ إِنَّ رَبِّى يَقْذِفُ بِٱلْحَقِّ عَلَّـٰمُ ٱلْغُيُوبِ

“Say, "Indeed, my Lord projects the truth, Knower of the unseen."”

Saheeh International

Essence

Allah hurls the truth with force, to His prophets, against falsehood and into hearts, and He knows every hidden place where it lands.

A reflection

He throws, and knows where it lands

Two descriptions of Allah sit side by side. He hurls the truth. He is the Knower of all that is hidden. One classical commentator explains why they belong together.

Someone who acts without knowing his target only hits by chance. An arrow can strike one spot rather than another simply because it happened to. The ayah rules that out. He casts the truth where He wills, and He knows the hidden places it lands. He knows the hearts it reaches, and what each will do with it.

Set that against our own speaking. We choose our words and almost never know where they go. A teacher tells a silent eleven-year-old that her essay about her grandmother's hands was the best thing she read all term. The teacher has forgotten it by the weekend. Twenty years later, at a school reunion, a woman who now writes for a living quotes the sentence back to her, word for word. The teacher had thrown something and never saw where it fell.

That is the human condition. We are throwers who cannot see the target. It should humble us in both directions. We cannot take credit for the hearts our words open, because we never saw them open. Nor can we despair of the hearts that seem closed, because we cannot see inside them either. Pride in our own persuasiveness is a kind of vanity, built on not knowing where anything lands.

Only One sees the whole flight. He knows what is hidden in every heart before the truth arrives, and what is hidden afterwards. When you speak a true word, speak it well, then let it go. The landing belongs to the Knower of the unseen.

Is it boastful for Allah to describe Himself this way? Only if the description served Him. It serves the listener. It tells the Prophet ﷺ, facing people who doubted him, that the truth he carries was aimed, and the aim does not miss.
