Al-Jinn الجن
Makki · 28 ayat · 28 with pondering
- Ayah 1A few jinn, sent to learn why the sky had shut, overheard a dawn prayer and went home saying it was wonder itself.
- Ayah 2They heard a Quran pointing to the road that arrives, took it at once, and vowed never again to share their Lord with anyone.
- Ayah 3Their first word about Allah was a clearing: His majesty is above every fortune, and He has taken no consort and no child.
- Ayah 4The believing jinn named their own leader 'our fool': a light mind whose claim about Allah overshot the truth by an outrageous distance.
- Ayah 5The jinn confess their old mistake: they believed the lies about Allah because they assumed no one would ever dare to lie about Him.
- Ayah 6Humans who ran to the jinn for shelter in the dark found the shelter closing in: more fear, more sin, bolder jinn.
- Ayah 7Humans and jinn alike had assumed Allah was finished with them, that He would send no messenger and raise no one, and both were wrong.
- Ayah 8The jinn reached for the sky as always and found it filled to the brim with stern watchmen: His decree is not for overhearing.
- Ayah 9The jinn's old listening seats near heaven are gone; whoever tries to overhear now meets a flame lying in wait for him.
- Ayah 10The jinn who once stalked heaven's secrets now said 'we do not know': whether harm was meant for earth, or whether its Lord meant guidance.
- Ayah 11Reporting home, the jinn name the sound among them, those short of it, and their factions, and leave each listener to find himself.
- Ayah 12Beings of speed and reach admit they could never outrun Allah, staying or fleeing, and that certainty becomes their first step towards faith.
- Ayah 13The jinn heard once and believed at once, and found the believer's real safety: no thumb on his scale, nothing unjust laid on it.
- Ayah 14After the hearing, the jinn's spectrum becomes a fork: some handed themselves over to their rightful Owner, others kept back what was never theirs.
- Ayah 15The jinn end their report with a warning: those who take what is not theirs become fuel, and the next ayah turns it on us.
- Ayah 16Allah's own voice returns with an offer to a town in drought: keep standing straight on the one road, and He will open a spring.
- Ayah 17The spring itself is the test: abundance shows what was gold in us, and turning from His remembrance threads us into a climb without rest.
- Ayah 18Every place of prostration belongs to Allah, so the room must be emptied of every rival: call on no one at all beside Him.
- Ayah 19One servant stood to call on his Lord alone, and crowds pressed on him like felt: some drawn by wonder, some massing to stop him.
- Ayah 20Pressed by a hostile crowd, the Prophet ﷺ answered in one line: I call only on my Lord, and share Him with no one.
- Ayah 21The Prophet ﷺ can point you to the right road, but he cannot walk it for you: harm and guidance sit in Allah's grip alone.
- Ayah 22No one can shelter you from Allah, and there is no side-hole to hide in: the only escape from Him is to Him.
- Ayah 23The one thing the Messenger ﷺ owned was the message itself, carried unaltered to your door; what you do with it is yours.
- Ayah 24The crowd counted heads and laughed at how few he had; one day they will see the real count, and learn who was truly few.
- Ayah 25Asked for a date, the Prophet ﷺ said 'I do not know': the finishing post is set, and only his Lord knows where.
- Ayah 26The unseen is like the sun after it sets: still shining, only hidden from you, and its Knower lets no one stand over it.
- Ayah 27Allah chooses His messenger and posts sentries on the road before and behind him, so that what leaves heaven arrives exactly as it was sent.
- Ayah 28The surah ends with a count: the messages delivered whole, every messenger encompassed, and everything that exists numbered one by one, as pebbles are…
