قُلْ إِنَّمَآ أَدْعُوا۟ رَبِّى وَلَآ أُشْرِكُ بِهِۦٓ أَحَدًا
“Say, [O Muḥammad], "I only invoke my Lord and do not associate with Him anyone."”

Essence
Pressed by a hostile crowd, the Prophet ﷺ answered in one line: I call only on my Lord, and share Him with no one.
A reflection
The narrowest word in the ayah
Everything about this moment invited a bigger claim. The crowd had pressed so tightly around him that the ayah before compares them to matted wool. He had their full attention. A man with an ego would have used it.
He said instead: innamā adʿū rabbī, 'I only call on my Lord.' Innamā is a narrowing word. It adds no credential; it takes everything else away. Not 'I am a great man'. Not 'follow me and prosper'. The greatest human life ever lived summed up its own work as calling on Someone else.
Set that beside how we introduce ourselves. The job title. The followers. The projects we led. Whole industries now exist to help people describe themselves as larger than they are. The ego wants its own name on the door. This ayah puts one name on the door, and it is not the speaker's.
A fair question follows. Why would God want to be the only one called on? Does He need it? In a hadith qudsi in Sahih Muslim, Allah says He is the One most free of need of any partner. Whoever does a deed for Him and for another, He leaves that person with the partner they chose. That is not neediness. It is a refusal to accept half a heart, because the divided heart is the one that suffers.
He loses nothing when we call on others. We lose a great deal: a sure door, a Hearer who never tires, a Lord who answers. Only the creature needs to be needed. The command to call on Him alone is mercy shaped like a narrowing. It closes the doors that lead nowhere, and leaves the one that opens.
