Makki · 26 ayat · 26 with pondering
- Ayah 1The Day that will cover everyone arrives first as a question, the way real news does: has it reached you yet?
- Ayah 2Every face will one day be lowered; the question is whether it bowed freely while that could help, or is bowed when it cannot.
- Ayah 3Everyone will stand, labour and grow tired; the only choice is whether that weariness is given to Allah now or imposed on the Day.
- Ayah 4Not beside a fire but set inside it, a fire that never cools and guards its own border: described now, while the fences still stand.
- Ayah 5The desert's word for rescue, a spring, is turned inside out: water heated to its limit, offered as relief and making the thirst worse.
- Ayah 6Their only food is a desert thorn that camels graze while green and shun once dried to poison: sweet in its season, deadly after.
- Ayah 7Food should build the body and end its hunger; this food does neither, and much of what feeds our hearts is its cousin.
- Ayah 8On the same Day, other faces are soft, the weathering of a hard life smoothed away, with the bliss plain to read in them.
- Ayah 9At last it is safe to be pleased with your own effort: the striver sees where every tired step was heading, and wants nothing more.
- Ayah 10The surah opened with a covering that overwhelms; here is a covering that shelters, a garden raised high for those who never climbed over others.
- Ayah 11After the garden's height, its first described gift is for the ear: not one word there that wounds, deceives or counts for nothing.
- Ayah 12To people who hauled every drop up from wells, the promise is water that runs by itself, needs no channel, and never stops.
- Ayah 13Couches raised high, named from the root of secrets and deep joy: a place to rest at last, and to see everything you were given.
- Ayah 14After couches raised up come cups set down at the spring's edge: here no one is made to drink, and no one must ask.
- Ayah 15Cushions set side by side: one to sit on, one to lean on, and room beside you for company with every grudge removed.
- Ayah 16Fine carpets spread everywhere, named with the word the Quran uses for grief poured out: in the Garden, only comfort is scattered.
- Ayah 17Before asking anyone to believe in the unseen, the Quran asks them to look properly at the animal they ride: how was it made?
- Ayah 18The camel is near and tame; the sky is far and out of reach, held up without pillars or strain, and we are asked how.
- Ayah 19Mountains set standing and unshaken, quietly storing water, breaking storms and guiding travellers, yet humble before their Lord in a way hard hearts are not.
- Ayah 20Last, look down: the earth spread like a flat roof for living on, a floor laid long before anyone claimed a strip.
- Ayah 21After four signs anyone can see comes one instruction: not to convince, compel or win, but to remind, and leave the rest with Allah.
- Ayah 22Remind, but do not stand over people keeping their record: hearts were never placed in your hands, not even the hearts you love most.
- Ayah 23Both verbs assume something was offered first: you can only turn your back on what was near, and only cover what was there.
- Ayah 24Allah is named here for the first time in the surah: the greatest punishment, from the One to whom greatness truly belongs.
- Ayah 25'To Us' comes first: every road, every escape and every detour ends at one door, the way travellers came home at nightfall.
- Ayah 26The surah that opened with a question ends with an answer: their reckoning rests on Allah, not on you, a warning and a relief.
