Ash-Shuraa الشورى
Makki · 53 ayat · 53 with pondering
- Ayah 1The surah named after consultation opens with two letters nobody was consulted about, a reminder that some things are received before anything is decided.

- Ayah 5The heavens nearly crack in awe, the angels glorify Him and plead for us, and He names Himself the Forgiving, the Merciful.
- Ayah 6Whatever people lean on instead of Allah, He keeps every account, and the one who calls them is a messenger, not their keeper.
- Ayah 7A clear Arabic Qur'an warns the mother of towns and the world around it of a Day that gathers everyone, then divides them.

- Ayah 9If you want a real protector, it is Allah, for only the One who raises the dead can stand by you at the end.
- Ayah 10Every dispute ends with Allah, so the believer can stop needing to win, rely on Him, and keep turning back.
- Ayah 11The One who split the heavens into being and multiplies us in pairs is like nothing at all, yet He hears and sees everything.
- Ayah 12The keys to every storehouse are His, so plenty and scarcity both come from One who knows exactly what each person can carry.
- Ayah 13Nuh, Ibrahim, Musa, ʿIsa and Muhammad ﷺ carried one charge: keep the religion standing and do not split apart over it.
- Ayah 14People split apart not for lack of knowledge but out of rivalry, and those who inherit a scripture without living it inherit restless doubt.
- Ayah 15Ten short clauses make a whole way of living among people who disagree: call, stay upright, be fair, and leave the verdict to Allah.
- Ayah 16Arguments meant to pull people back from a call they have already answered slide away to nothing before their Lord.
- Ayah 17Allah sent down the Book and the Balance together, and no one knows how near the Hour is when everything will be weighed.
- Ayah 18Those who deny the Hour mockingly demand it now; believers hold it with a fearful care, because they know it is real.

- Ayah 20Sow your life for the Hereafter and the harvest multiplies; sow it only for this world and you get part of it.

- Ayah 32Ships as tall as mountains run across the sea, each one a landmark pointing back to the One who lets them run.
- Ayah 33One stilled wind leaves the mightiest ships stuck on the sea's back, and only the patient and the grateful read what that stillness says.

- Ayah 39The same people who forgive in anger also stand up when injustice strikes them, and refuse to be trampled, without going one step too far.
- Ayah 40A wrong may be answered with its exact equal and no more; whoever pardons and mends the bond has a reward Allah Himself owes.
- Ayah 41Whoever takes back exactly what was taken from them after being wronged has done no wrong; blame has no road to them.
- Ayah 42The road of blame runs only to those who wrong people and overreach in the land without right, and it ends in pain.
- Ayah 43Bearing a wrong and forgiving it, when you could have answered, is not softness; it is the road of resolve, taken straight without turning back.
- Ayah 44No one can guide the one Allah leaves astray, and wrongdoers who saw no need for a road back will one day beg for one.
- Ayah 45Those who would not lower their eyes before Allah will one day glance at the Fire through half-shut lids, having lost themselves and their families.
